If you have any photos from the opening of the Cheriton Pavilion, we would be very pleased to copy and add them to our archive.
John Arlott opened Cheriton Pavilion in 1961 (Whoops it was 1963). The photograph opposite shows him signing a book on the pavilion steps.  The wooden pavilion is almost as it was built fifty years ago. Last year it was rewired,  the lighting replaced and the kitchen refurbished.

This year In 2013 we will celebrate this. This year it is sixty years since the club was restarted after the second world war by hosting the John Arlott Cup.  The cup was first presented in 2009 when a plaque was added to The Old Sun (see below) commemorating John Arlott living there for the twenty years from 1962 to 1981.  For more about the event in 2009 please visit the Cricket Society -
John Arlott Plaque Unveiled.
A cricket game between two sides composed of Cheriton, Old Alresford,  Ropley and Tichborne Park Cricket Club's players took part in the first John Arlott Cup.  The cup was then available for future competitions amongst the cricket clubs local to Alresford.  This year Cheriton hosts a triangular tournament between Cheriton, Ropley and Tichborne Park on Sunday 28th August.  The programme and rules are shown below. It will be part of the Beer, Balloons and Music festival hosted by The Flower Pots
On Saturday Cheriton will be playing Winchester College Staff in a friendly game.  On Monday the Cheriton Sixes, a competition behind eight sides, will start at 09:00 and finish at 19:30.

AWARDS &PRESENTATIONS

RULES:

The
John Arlott Cup 2011 will be played as a 3 team competition.  Each team will bat and bowl against both other teams, and all 3 teams will effectively be playing each other at the same time!

  • Each innings consists of 15 overs and will be played to the full overs.  Wides and no-balls will be counted as 2 extras and the ball not re-bowled.
  • Each team will therefore bowl 30 overs in total, with a maximum of 5 overs per bowler, to be spread across the two innings, at the discretion of the fielding captain.
  • Batsmen will retire at 25, with the second innings of each team following on in the batting order from the end of their first innings.  Each team continues to bat on for the full 30 overs, but only runs scored up to the fall of their 20th wicket count.
  • The Cup will be decided on net run rate.  This will be calculated as follows: total runs scored divided by wickets lost (minimum 8 wickets assumed) less total runs against divided by wickets taken.  Each of these calculations will be made on the basis of the totals added together from the four innings played by that team.
